@Mariel - if you're planning to update the content fairly regularly, then a Wordpress blog would be my recommendation. If you check out the <a href="http://www.headwaythemes.com/affiliates/idevaffiliate.php?id=461" rel="nofollow">Headway</a> [aff] theme, it is infinitely customisable with custom CSS and is the only theme we recommend these days. It might take a bit of time to play around with & get used to WP, but if you're already familiar with html & CSS, you should be ok. Good luck :)

A question to you, who seem to have (very) good knowledge about the blog vs "static" HTML sites.

I'm currently going back to making websites on HTML+CSS (and maybe some server-side code) after doing that for a little over a year in 2000 (in a country that wasn't quite "there" yet technologically speaking). Unfortunately I was forced to stop doing that for several years and haven't been able to keep up with the trends and what not. I've registered a domain for a travel website idea I got. So far, I have a specific audience/target and content, and a rough idea of the layout/concept.

The website is half way done thanks to Dreamweaver. I'm not a Photoshop expert and I think what I do best is play with words. My site will have travel articles from a specific perspective, with photo galleries and maybe a video gallery if I continue taking short videos with my camera.

I probably won't have the time to update every day or every week, but for sure once or twice a month, or more depending on time.

Do you think I should have a "static" HTML or a blog like site? I don't really like blogs but I've seen some WP templates out there, and I even have one if I can modify the colors according to my concept (and assuming I can run a WP server to try the things on locally before uploading them to the hosting place). Let me add that I have no clue as to how to use WP so that would be a bit of a learning curve for me (but if a blog like site is better for this idea, I'll get on it), while I can handle Dreamweaver, HTML+CSS pretty well, I'm just not that good with the design part, making logos, etc.

TIA

I am currently releasing my new travel blog and have been searching for information like this. It seems that a combination of static and blog sites works best for potential income. Is it beneficial for the static sites to fall into the same genre as your blog?
