Great post. Like many of you, I reached the point where I just couldn’t take it anymore. I think it’s important to start planning well before you reach that point. Luckily, I’m a professional writer. Between my freelance work and the kindness of strangers (aka, family) I’m able to make ends meet. But I’d still like to reach the point where I can travel the world and get by working just 2 or 3 hours per day.

Absolutely indispensable advice. It was doubly hard for me because I didn’t have high-level skills and never made that much money in my life. So saving a nest egg was really not possible, and still isn’t.

All I can do is hope that what I can generate online — once I come up with a viable niche — will take me to independence within 2 years.

Thanks for the information! I’m relatively fresh out of (grad) school and have been working for less than 2 years, but I’m already looking for potential ways to get out of the corporate cubicle job! I’m still in the process of paying of debts before I can really save up any money, but I really do appreciate advice on how to get to where I want to be in the future!
