Welcome Zen Habits Readers!

lw_head.jpgIf you’ve come over from Zen Habits, then aloha!

I’m Lea and I’ve been writing on this blog since my husband, Jonathan, and I left the UK in February of this year.

The blog started out as more of a journal of our travel plans – and a review of some of the places we’ve been to this year which include:

  • Panama for 2 months
  • Buenos Aires for 1 month
  • Toronto for 1 month
  • Grenada, West Indies for 5 months (where we currently are)

It has since turned into a place where we can share our experiences, learnings, ideas, resources and inspirations about location independent living – with a small but growing community of others who are looking to do the same. Please join us!

To help you find out what’s on this site, I’ve picked out some posts that might be of interest, if you’re looking to create this kind of lifestyle…

I found this site through ZenHabits and definitely bookmarked it. I plan on becoming a freelance artist one day, but who knows when :) I hope to continue to get inspired through this website until my dream is realised!

Hey Lea! Thanks for checking out my site. I’m trying to get into the fantasy/ conceptual art industry. I still have to pursue more avenues when it comes to advertising for it, I just don’t want to clutter my portfolio website with ads.

Right now I’m in Norway, originally from the US, working as quality assurance at a video game company. I want to try to get into a more career oriented goal of concept artist at the game company I work at. Then I was hoping to gain some industry experience under my belt, which I think would be helpful in becoming a completely location independent artist. I’ve recently realised this was my ultimate goal after finding an independent artist named Bobby Chiu who runs his own studio. He has to turn down clients, he has so many :) I saw that and thought, yes, that’s the position I want to be in! I’m 23, so I know I still have a lot of time to reach my goals, but it’s never too early to start.

A lot of the information on your site isn’t directly applicable to the art field, but I realise a lot of it can be useful, nonetheless. You and your husband are definitely an inspiration :)

Welcome Char! You’ve got some very unique work on your site…what do you currently do if you’re not freelancing yet?

My husband (a freelance illustrator, designer & artist) took the plunge before we left and is still slowly building up his freelancing career – it’s a tough industry but he has found that if you keep producing work you’re pleased with, the paid work will start to come.

Good luck – hope we can inspire and help you!
