We’d heard & read a few things about taxis in Buenos Aires. Things like don’t take a cab on the street, always call for a radio taxi…which scared us a little given our lack of Spanish skills!
These are our tips for taxis in Buenos Aires…
We never actually called a radio taxi (when we needed to get to the airport, we got Tina from Buenos Aires Habitat to do it, just to ensure it came as ordered!).
We did however take taxis, despite hearing that it can be dangerous to do this and you could get taken for a ride (literally), robbed & dumped in the middle of nowhere.
What we did however, was always make sure we got into one which had both a taxi light on the roof and also the company name painted on the side (as well as the usual "Radio Taxi" words which you see on very cab.
We also tried to take a cab which someone else got out of. We were just careful and never had a problem with it. Cabs are very cheap in Buenos Aires, run on a metered basis (so you don’t have to haggle) and are well worth taking if you’re sensible about which ones you take.
